GRESHAM SCP AWARDED "SHORT-LIST" RATING IN VIRTUAL TAPE LIBRARY REVIEW
Independent Report Ranks Gresham Alongside EMC for EnterpriseTape Management
AUSTIN, TEXAS – 20 July 2006 – Gresham Enterprise Storage today announced that its Storage Consolidation Platform (SCP) has received the 'Short List' recommendation by independent data storage experts Diogenes Analytical Laboratories. SearchStorage.com published the report comparing over a dozen disk-to-disk backup products to enable IT buyers to select the best solution as part of their enterprise storage strategy.
Gresham SCP combines virtual tape library (VTL) functionality with enterprise-class tape management to enable any combination of storage applications to utilize any tape device in the customer environment, no matter the model of tape drive, library or media.
"Shortlist candidates are selected from the entire field based on our assessment of high-caliber functionality and the ability to meet the enterprise storage needs of most IT organizations," said Phil Goodwin, president of Diogenes Analytical Laboratories. "Other products may be considered for specific needs or situations, but short-list candidates must meet a higher threshold."
With many organizations continuing to rely upon tape backup as an integral part of their storage strategy, Gresham has taken a unique approach to solving the challenge of VTL consolidation in an enterprise environment. By building on the benefits of traditional virtual tape systems, SCP is designed to coexist with tape rather than replace it to provide agile handling of storage operations. The "Total Vision" enabled by SCP simplifies storage management by making information and reporting for all tape devices more readily available while giving the ability to view the operations of the entire storage environment from one location.
"SCP is a new evolution in enterprise tape management and this independent evaluation has validated the true value of our technology," said Keith Summers, vice president of Gresham Enterprise Storage. "During the last decade we have helped more than half of the Global 500 to aggregate and optimize their enterprise tape operations. SCP meets the needs that we have seen in the customer environment and fills in the gaps left by traditional virtual tape systems."
In addition to providing virtual tape for true enterprise-class environments, SCP enables the collection of real-time and historical information about every volume and tape device in the environment to provide "Total Vision" of storage management. This information is crucial in pinpointing issues and can be used to analyze data trends for predictive failure analysis.
"Mergers and acquisitions in major corporations necessitate the consolidation of enormous amounts of data," said Andrew Walton-Green, CEO of Gresham Computing plc. "Our deep understanding and expertise in the storage industry has enabled us to build a solution that addresses these challenges head on. SCP is a new evolution in enterprise tape management that resolves consolidation headaches and simplifies the management of disparate systems."
